of Amazonian indigenous leaders NOW in Europe discussing the impact of large dams on the local communities. The delegation will engage European governments and dam builders and
put pressure on one of the main financier of these projects – the Brazilian National Development Bank (BNDES) – to refrain or withdraw their support. The delegation will
help to advance the preservation of the Xingu, Madeira, and Ene River basins and demand respect for the rights of local populations whose livelihoods depend on these
riverines.

FILM: CHILDREN OF THE
AMAZON: Showing on February 18th in
London. This film follows Brazilian filmmaker Denise Zmekhol as she travels a modern highway deep into the Amazon in search of the Indigenous Surui and Negarote
children she photographed fifteen years ago. Her journey tells the story of what happened to life in the largest forest on Earth when a road was built straight through its heart.
